My Characters being Thankful

This post features characters from my stories

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

In the spirit of the Holiday, I asked all of my characters what they were thankful for. The little interjections inside the square brackets are from my Alter-Ego, Hannah, keeping my people honest.

 ~*~

Matt from The TimeWarp Bill

“Man, I don’t know… Is it corny if I put down the stuff that happened in my story?”

[Hannah: very corny, but please go on.]

“Well, it sort of changed my mind about some things. So that’s good and all. So quit making fun of me.”

[Hannah: Not making fun of you, Sweetie. I like corny.]

 ~*~

Lisa from Ball Girl

“I’m thankful my parents raised me to have a solid work ethic. It makes me feel empowered to meet my goals.”

 ~*~

Samantha from Waiting room and The Truth Behind Letters

(And yes, it excites me greatly that I now have a character in more than one publication.)

“Lots of things, really. At the moment, I’m grateful for how many people I’ve had the chance to talk to in the different waiting rooms. I’ve learned a lot from them, even if I didn’t fully realize it at the time. I took something away from each of those interactions.”

 ~*~

Zen from No More Heroes

“I pass.”

[Hannah: No, you don’t. Get back here and be thankful for something.]

“I’m really not in the mood for this, Hannah.”

[Hannah: And we’re all shocked. Come on. I’m sure you can think of something.]

*large pause* “I’m thankful for math. It’s comforting that anything at all exists in the world that makes sense.”

 ~*~

Trevor from School Spirit

“Thankful for Teachers. It’s a tough job, since most people don’t care. I definitely couldn’t do it.”

 ~*~

Rodney from School Spirit.

“Oh, Everything! I’m so lucky to be around great people, and have a great job, and live in a great town.”

[Hannah: Cute. Could you humor me and narrow it down to one thing specifically? I’m curious.]

“Sure, I can try! Umm… I’m glad dragons live as long as they do. It makes me happy knowing that I’ll get to have so many experiences in my life.”

 ~*~

Kaleb from Loved by Numbers

“I’m thankful I have great hair.”

[Hannah: Mmhm. Yeah, we both know that’s not what you originally wrote down.]

“I don’t want to read it. It sounds stupid.”

[Hannah: Don’t worry. No one’s watching. Unless you count the entire internet.]

“Why are you so mean to me?”

[Hannah: I’m mean to everyone. And by the way, if you don’t read it, you don’t get pie.]

“You wouldn’t dare.”

[Hannah: You really want to find out?]

*sigh of utter embarrassment* “I’m thankful the Author is considering picking my project up again.”

 ~*~

And as for myself, this year I’m thankful to have such a solid network of supporters as I continue with my writing career (and I’m thankful that I’ve reached a point in my life where I can use the phrase “my writing career”). I don’t know what I would do without such awesome family, friends, and coworkers.

What are you (and your characters!) thankful for this year?
