Weekend Coffee Share – A Quick Check In
If we were having coffee this weekend, you would hardly be able to see me beneath my scarves and hats and coats and blankets. I would give you a grim smile as I peel off my protective layers, with a sly comment about the winter weather. But you would know that my hatred of the cold does nothing to dim my delight at seeing you.
I would order a latte, delight in the barista’s foamy artwork, and sigh deeply as I took the first sip. Things have been good, I would tell you. I have this feeling like I’m both extremely busy and also standing completely still.
I’ve been editing my fantasy murder mystery (yes, that one! Thank you for remembering. You’re such a dear) and I’m just about ready to put it down for another long nap. After that, who knows? Undoubtedly I’ll take some time to work on short stories to cleanse the pallet, but I don’t know what larger project will occupy this year.
I would drum my fingernails on the mug, glancing around with a mix of apprehension for the unknown, and the thrill of it. I would lay out the options for you, each one bringing me a different kind of joy.
The guild project, with its magic and romance? Or the trilogy, with its delicious challenges of world building? Or maybe something completely new. It’s been so long since I’ve been caught up in the whirlwind of drafting.
I would savor that final, sugary sip and set the cup down on the table with a pronounced clunk, dismissing the quandary. Before I can make the choice, the murder mystery has to be finished. And soon, it will be. And, when it is, I will be so excited to tell you all about it.
What would you tell me if we were having coffee this weekend?

If we were having coffee, I would tell you how delighted I am to see you, how eager I am to read the finished version of your fantasy murder mystery, and how much I hate coffee and would rather be drinking dairy-free hot chocolate. (P.S. The only reason I did not like this post is because I don’t see a “Like” button.)
